A Texas based search and rescue organization is back up and flying their UAVs to search for missing persons. Recently they received an email from the FAA stating the commercial use of UAVs is illegal. Texas Equusearch requested and emergency injunction. Recently, the court refused to act on the suit because it said the e-mail from FAA had no legal effect, and therefore was not subject to judicial review. The FAA hasn’t backed off of their position stating, “has no bearing on the FAA’s authority to regulate UAS [unmanned aircraft systems]. The FAA remains legally responsible for the safety of the national airspace system.”
